GRADING STANDARDSStrict visual grading directly underneath a 100-watt bulb very slowly and carefully until any and all flaws are seen and noted. Most records are played to check sound quality/musical type/etc. Records will be noted if they play significantly better than their visual grade. It has been my experience that most records play better than their strict visual grade, and very few play worse GRADING = COVER/RECORD M/MINT = no marks perceptible. M- = no more than one or two marks (small scuffs, etc.) per side. VG++++ = a few slight marks per side (I find this grade preferable to stretching the grade to M- when it isn’t….many dealers’ M- ?). VG+++ = very, very clean, but marks a bit more noticeable visually (equal to EX?). VG++ = still very clean, but obvious signs of handling/playing. VG+ = more wear, but disc is much cleaner overall than marked/scratched a VG+ disc plays with minor hiss/crackle, usually between songs, and is a very satisfactory listen, in my opinion. VG = about evenly divided between clean/marked….no bad scratches detected. VG - = more marked up than not, but generally not too bad. G/F = pretty worn . (+)/(-) = between grades (visually). The same basic standards apply to covers (LPS/EPs/PS). All LPS are original pressings in stereo unless otherwise noted. |
